Croydon Fun Weekend 2019 — advance notice

Hello! Next year’s Croydon Fun Weekend will run from Friday 25 to Sunday 27 January 2019. Please put a note in your diaries!

I do have a couple of related requests. Firstly, in previous years there’s been a children’s soft play session on the Friday afternoon; however, most of the regular child attendees are now in school and so unable to make it. I’m happy to run this session if there’s enough interest, but if you want it to happen then you need to speak up! You don’t have to definitely commit to it, especially this far in advance — I just want an indication of interest. So if you’re interested in bringing a child to a soft play/chat/lunch/snacks session on Friday 26 January, please let me know.

Secondly, I’m looking for people who want to get involved in running and/or organising the weekend. Would you like to lead a guided walk or pub crawl? Organise an activity we’ve not done before? Help with publicity in advance? Be the designated person who books a restaurant, keeps track of RSVPs, and turns up early to make sure everything’s ready? If so, let me know.

That should read "max # of ppl 10 for my own sanity" :) An afternoon session on a Saturday or Sunday rather than Friday seems sensible, and with enough time I'll be able to snag a booking.

Ahhh Bec you are amazing! Thank you so much! I might try to redeploy you in another area though, if that’s OK with you? I put this out on Twitter too, and Ludoquist replied literally 8 minutes later saying they’d like to be involved, so I’m going to go and talk to them next week and hopefully we can get a session there without the need for a lot of organisational work on our side. I’ll let you know as soon as I’ve talked to them.

Happy to be redeployed elsewhere - I can totally set up doodle polls and such for meal organising and to book tables etc.

Just to report back that I talked to Ludoquist yesterday and we’ll be going there on the Sunday evening after the walk (which itself is yet to be organised).

I might try to take the Weds-Fri off that week to dedicate to CFW orgawork dependent on busyness of work and how many days of a/l I have left - might be cheeky and book now as end of the month is the start of governance board reporting BUT I will try anyway!

Aw Bec, this really is above and beyond! From previous years' experience, there actually isn't all that much last-minute stuff to do — most of the work is the advance planning and then the on-the-day logistics. I do generally take a day or two off work in advance but that's more to gather my strength than anything else :)

Happy to help and keep the CFW love train chugging :) I might take the Friday off anyway so I can come along to Friday day stuff (as long as it's not soft play, I know you don't need to be a parent/carer to attend but not really my scene). Still having a think & hope to have some suggestions :)

I haven’t heard from anyone who wants to bring a child on Friday afternoon, so am pondering a craft session at Communitea instead — what do you think?

I've booked the Friday and Monday following CFW off work now so I can def go Friday, and also do Sunday stuff without feeling overwhelmed by the Cronx - I do love it but will need a day off the trusty 468 route ;)

Woohoo! OK, I’ll talk to Communitea about taking over one of their tables on the Friday afternoon. I’m hoping to get over there the week after next. They host community events already so they might like to get involved in publicising this.
